POWER TO THE PEOPLE

2009 Found police objects, motorcycle, wood and acoustic panels Sebastian ErraZuriz searched for and purchased the elements that comprise a complete United States police uniform on various internet sites for almost two years. The collected objects, tools, badges, and weapons allegedly came from former policemen and other ex-law enforcement professionals who had retired and sold their belongings online. Once the artist finally completed the full collection, it was displayed like a movie arsenal behind a couple of secret doors installed in his studio. The art installation calls to mind the secret rooms in which superheroes hide their identities or sociopaths plan their robberies. For the artist, this installation highlights how easily a common citizen can legally acquire a full policeman's uniform, allowing that person maximum authority and power on the streets.
